At Smoofin, we believe your financial data belongs to you and should stay with you. Unlike other finance apps, we don't sync to the cloud, we don't sell your data, and we don't track your usage.
How Smoofin Protects Your Data
📱 Local Storage Only
All your financial data is stored locally on your device using secure storage methods:
- No cloud servers or external databases
- Your data never leaves your device
- No internet connection required to use the app (except for investment price updates)
- Complete offline functionality for all core features
🔒 Your Data is Yours
You have complete control over your information:
- Export your data anytime as CSV files
- Delete your data anytime from Settings
- No external access to your financial information
- Your data cannot be accessed by us or any third party
🛡️ Bank Statement Import Privacy
When you import bank statements:
- Files are processed entirely on your device
- Original files are not stored after processing
- No data is uploaded to any server
- All parsing and categorization happens locally
💾 Backup Recommendations
Since your data is stored locally, we strongly recommend:
- Using the Export Data feature regularly (Settings → Export Data)
- Storing backups in a secure location (encrypted drive, password manager, etc.)
- Backing up before reinstalling the app or switching devices
- This protects against device loss, damage, or accidental deletion
Current Security Features
🔐 App Lock
- 6-digit PIN protection to lock the app
- App automatically locks when minimized or closed
- PIN is stored securely on your device only
🔐 Password Protection
- Account password required to access your data
- Password reset via email (temporary password system)
- Password is hashed and stored securely
👁️ Privacy Mode
- Blur all monetary values with a single toggle
- Useful for privacy in public or when sharing your screen
- All values appear as blurred placeholders when enabled
Future Security Enhancements
We're continuously working to add more security features:
- Biometric Authentication: Face ID / Touch ID support (coming soon)
- End-to-End Encrypted Cloud Backup: Optional encrypted backup to your own cloud storage (coming soon)
- Additional Privacy Controls: More granular privacy settings
- Enhanced Data Protection: Additional encryption layers
Note: These features will be optional. We'll never force you to use cloud storage or share your data.
What We Don't Collect
To be completely clear, here's what we do not collect:

Investment Price Updates
When you track investments, Smoofin needs internet access to fetch current stock prices:
- Only stock ticker symbols (e.g., "AAPL") are sent to price data providers
- No personal financial information is transmitted
- Price data is fetched from public stock market APIs
- This is the only internet connection the app makes
Email Communication
If you contact us via email (smoofinapp@gmail.com):
- We only use your email to respond to your inquiry
- We don't add you to marketing lists without consent
- We don't share your email with third parties
- You can request deletion of email correspondence
Children's Privacy
Smoofin is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Data Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time:
- From within the app: Settings → Delete Account
- Or by uninstalling the app (after exporting your data if desired)
Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered. Make sure to export your data before deleting if you want to keep a backup.
