Is Smoofin free?

Yes! Smoofin is completely free to use. There are no subscriptions, no hidden fees, and no premium tiers. We believe everyone deserves access to great financial tools.

What platforms is Smoofin available on?

Smoofin is available for both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). The app works on phones and tablets.

Do I need to create an account?

Yes, you'll create a simple account when you first open the app. This account is stored locally on your device and is used to protect your data with a password.

Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored?

All your financial data is stored locally on your device. We don't use cloud storage, and your data never leaves your device. This ensures complete privacy and security.

Can I back up my data?

Yes! You can export your data as a CSV file at any time from Settings → Export Data. We recommend backing up your data regularly to a secure location.

What happens if I lose my device or delete the app?

Since data is stored locally, if you lose your device or delete the app without backing up first, your data cannot be recovered. That's why we strongly recommend using the Export Data feature regularly.

Features

How do I import bank statements?

Go to Dashboard → Import Statement. You can import CSV files directly from your bank. PDF support is coming soon—for now, we recommend converting PDFs to CSV using ChatGPT or your bank's export feature.

How does investment tracking work?

Smoofin tracks your investments by connecting to real-time stock prices. Simply add your investments with their ticker symbols (e.g., AAPL for Apple), and the app will automatically update prices and calculate your portfolio value.

Can I set up multiple savings goals?

Absolutely! You can create as many savings goals as you want. Each goal can have its own target amount, deadline, and category.

What is Privacy Mode?

Privacy Mode is a feature that blurs all monetary values in the app. This is useful if you're showing your phone to someone or want an extra layer of privacy. You can toggle it on/off in Settings.

Tips & Best Practices

How often should I update my transactions?

We recommend updating your income and expenses regularly—daily or weekly—to keep your financial picture accurate. You can use the bank statement import feature to make this easier.

How do I use the tip jar?

If you enjoy using Smoofin and want to support development, you can send a tip from Settings → Tip Jar. Tips help us keep Smoofin free and add new features!

Can I change my currency?

Yes! Go to Settings → Currency to select from multiple supported currencies. Your existing amounts will be displayed in the new currency.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes when I open it

Try closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, try restarting your device. If problems continue, please contact us with details about when the crash occurs.

Investment prices aren't updating

Make sure you have an internet connection. Prices update automatically when you open the app or manually refresh. If prices still don't update, check that your investment ticker symbols are correct.

I forgot my password

Use the "Forgot Password" feature on the login screen. A temporary password will be sent to your email address. Once you log in, change your password immediately in Settings.

My data is missing

Check that you're logged in with the correct account. If you recently reinstalled the app, your data may have been lost. Always back up your data before reinstalling or switching devices.
